What an ultimate treat to sit down to a locally grown, six-course meal in the middle of a beautiful, farm setting! The scenic drive out to Fox Fire Farms in Ignacio, Colorado was peaceful with the winding roads and rolling, green meadows. Upon entering the parking area, a vast view of grassy fields, hay and mingling locals were a welcome setting. Durango dining, local style!
The grill was tended to by our own Cliff Bornheim and Ryan Lowe of The Ore House, who take part as a farm to table restaurant in Durango, Co. The smell of delicious tenderloin filled the air, along with braised kale deliciously soaking in Fox Fire’s Cabernet wine. While the appetizers of Fox Fire Farms sausage, stuffed baby romaine lettuce and handmade samosas were shared with a wine fruit punch, the kitchen was buzzing with activity. What a great vibe of happiness for an amazing Durango community event!
Naturopaths, chefs, farmers, designers, dancers, musicians, writers, teachers and many others gather together to celebrate a nourishing community connection.
This truly was an epic farm-to-table experience, from the flowers to every edible morsel of goodness. It was exotic with tender antelope tenderloin prepared by The Ore House and decadent chocolates from Animas Chocolate Company. It was comfort food with beef tenderloin from East Pines Ranch and sage roasted potatoes. It was cooling in the hot sun with chilled carrot soup and fresh green salad topped with columbine flowers. The portions were just right considering range of tastes for such a spacious meal, and the Fox Fire Farms wines were thoughtfully paired with each course.
As the night cooled and the mosquitoes were nowhere to be found, a feeling of appreciation was in the air. What amazing dedication among talented chefs at restaurants in durango co like The Ore House and Linda’s Local Cafe to prepare a gratifying meal for 165 people! The effort it took on everyone’s part was reflected in each savory bite. The local farm-to-table experience is definitely the way of the future; for sustainability, nourishment and pure enjoyment. Fox Fire Farms did it again. Thanks to all who took part!
