Just in time for St. Patrick's Day, our newest shipment of Green Toys has arrived! Green Toys are made from 100% recycled plastic which saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and minimizes our carbon footprint. Not only that but Green Toys come to Durango from San Francisco and not a far away place which requires using more energy for shipping!
Did you know that, on average, every pound of recycled plastic used to make Green Toys saves:
Enough Energy to run a laptop computer (like the one I'm using right now) for a month? OR
Saves enough energy to power a TV for about 3 weeks? Cool!
Not only that Green Toys are safe! Safe kids are happy kids, and safe kids have happy parents too! Green Toys and Green Eats meet all international toy safety standards, contain no BPA, lead, phthalates, and are dishwasher safe! Not only that, they are safe to use with real food!
This is the complete package when it comes to Green! All of the toys and products are packaged in boxes made from recycled materials and are printed with soy ink. The best part is that there is no heavy duty tape to cut, no mile long twist ties to untangle, and no glue holding the box together making it easier for you to flatten for recycling!
So, you ask, what is Durango Toy Depot doing in the spirit of green? Well, for starters, we have our thermostats on timers as to reduce our energy consumption when there is no one here. We bundle the toys up at night and tuck them snugly into bed so everyone stays nice and toasty!
When we moved in to our home on Main Street the store was lit using halogen lightbulbs. As those bulbs burned out we've replaced them with more energy efficient CFL bulbs and have relaced our smaller halogen lights with super efficient LED bulbs. The lights in our front windows are on timers as well. We're pleased to report that 93% of our lighting is now far more efficient that when we moved in less that a year ago. That's good for everyone.
We recycle our cardboard boxes (we either take them to the city recycle bins or use them to ship toys from our store), reuse printer paper, and don't use harsh chemicals when we clean our floors and toys. The bags we use are paper and made from post consumer waste as well. Perhaps you can decorate your own for a reusable bag? Or even a gift bag?
We're on the look-out for cool stuff to bring to Durango that made from cool stuff!
